The following calls were received by police by 8 a.m. today:
September 11
An officer talked to the owner of a truck that had been parked in the 600 block of SMC for a long time. She told the officer it had broken down and she needed time to figure out what to do with it. She was advised to call police if she needed help.
At 12:45 p.m. a caller said he’d received four complaints about an intoxicated man panhandling in the area of Centennial Hall. A trespass order was served on the man.
At 2:51 p.m. a 911 caller said a man was causing a disturbance at Eliason transient dock, arguing with his deckhand and refusing to leave. Police asked him to leave, and he did.
At 4:40 p.m. a caller said her neighbor was exposing himself. He was advised of the consequences of his actions and given ideas of better places to conduct such activities.
At 5:13 p.m. a deer was reported hit by a vehicle in the 1000 block of SMC, and was still alive. The driver also called to say the deer had been moved to the side of the road. Officers found the deer was dead and it is to be donated to the Raptor Center.
At 8:23 p.m. a caller reported hearing what sounded like a man screaming near Shuler Drive. Police found a dog running loose but didn’t see any other disturbances.
At 10 p.m. a 911 caller said a truck and trailer had gone into the water at Eagle Beach and were fully submerged. Three people had gotten out, the caller said. Officers arrested one male.
At 11:52 p.m. a 911 caller said an elderly intoxicated man had fallen down in a downtown parking lot. He was taken to a hospital.
September 12
At 12:21 a.m. a caller reported seeing a reckless driver swerving in the lane with no lights on, inbound on HPR. An officer was unable to find it.
At 12:31 a.m. a hospital asked for police backup for a non-compliant man officers had just brought in.
At 2:40 a.m. a Seward Street store said an intoxicated man was causing issues and refusing to leave. An officer found the man, and reported he had paid for his items and left on foot.
At 5 p.m. a caller said a man at Totem Square was mumbling and scratching himself. Officers found he was high on meth but able to care for himself.
At 6 a.m. a caller said a man was passed out in a downtown bank lobby. An officer advised him to move along.
At 6;09 a.m. a caller said a man had returned to Totem Square and was trying to open doors and look through windows at a hotel. An officer told the man to stay off the property for the remainder of the day.
Sitka Police
Joseph A. Newman, 34, was arrested by Alaska Wildlife Troopers on three Unalaska state warrants.
Tia Brown, 30, was charged Tuesday with a felony probation violation.
Camden Williams Suarez, 18, was charged with driving under the influence and two minor females were cited for minor consuming after a truck and trailer went into the water at Eagle Beach late Tuesday.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 11:19 a.m., 3:03 p.m., 5:44 p.m., 10:47 p.m. and 11:54 p.m. Tuesday.

Responding to the requests of athletes, coaches and parents, the Sitka School Board voted unanimously Monday against a proposal that would have changed Sitka High School’s classification from Class 4A, which includes Juneau and Ketchikan, to the 3A, which has schools with enrollment of 100 to 400 students.

Memories of Sitka’s first radio station have been revived by a St. Louis, Mo., man who was one of the founders. Fred A. Wiethuchter recently wrote a letter to “Mayor Sitka, Alaska” asking about the town since he was here during World War II. He was an Army private at Fort Ray when he was attached to Armed Services Radio Station KRAY and WVCX ....
