LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage.     The following calls were received by police by 8 a.m. today:
Sept. 13
    At 8 a.m. a caller said a man who had previously assaulted her was outside banging on her window. Officers contacted her, and she told them she didn’t want to press charges, there was no domestic relationship, and she didn’t need further assistance.
    At 8 a.m. a caller said a cat had been struck by a vehicle downtown and was in pain. Officers were unable to locate the cat.
    A 911 caller said an elderly woman was in severe pain with a kidney infection. An ambulance was called.
    At 4:15 p.m. a caller said he got locked between the gates at the scrap yard and couldn’t get out. An officer helped him get out.
    At 5:42 p.m. a caller said a driver was swerving over the roadway in the 2200 block of HPR. Officers contacted the driver at Sandy Beach, and he told them he’d been swerving to avoid kids on the road shoulder.
    At 6:16 p.m. a caller said a 60-year-old woman had fallen at the Sitka Science Sound Center and injured her arm. She was taken to a hospital.
    Sept. 14
    At 12:03 a.m. a caller on Somer Drive reported a trash can had been knocked over.
    At 2 a.m. two vehicles parked at the airport that had been warned previously were reported still there.

In Court
    Robert Michael Brown, 21, was found guilty of disorderly conduct, challenge to a fight, and was sentenced to time served.
    Russell D. Snell, 60, on a charge of driving under the influence was fined $1,500 and sentenced to 30 days with 27 suspended; the three days may be served by house arrest. He is to complete treatment. His license was revoked for 90 days and for six months after driving privileges are restored he is to have an ignition interlock device installed.
    Alec B. Cunningham, 24, was found guilty of assault in the fourth degree, recklessly injure, and was sentenced to 360 days, suspended. He is to receive treatment, and will be on probation for two years. A charge of assault in the second degree was dismissed.
    Michael P. Duby, 44, of Juneau, was fined $6,000 with $3,000 suspended on a Fish & Game charge of unlawful retention of an undersized king. He will be on probation for a year.
    George Baggen, 69, on a charge of driving under the influence was fined $1,500, ordered to complete treatment, and sentenced to 30 days with 27 suspended; the three days may be served via house arrest. His license was revoked for 90 days, and for six months after his driving privileges are restored he is to have an ignition interlock device on his vehicle.
    Tia M. Brown, 30, on a charge of violating conditions of probation had her probation revoked with three days to be served with credit for time served. Her remaining sentence will be revoked and resuspended.
    Benjamin Robert Mitchell, 37, on a charge of burglary in the second degree was sentenced to 24 months with 12 months suspended, and placed on probation for three years. On a charge of vehicle theft in the first degree he was sentenced to 24 months with 18 suspended, and on a charge of theft in the first degree he was sentenced to 24 months with 18 suspended, and will be on probation for three years. All of the  charges occurred in January, and the sentences will be consecutive.
    Dismissed were a Dec. 8, 2017, charge of theft in the fourth degree; a Jan. 6, 2018, charge of theft in the fourth degree; Jan. 15 charges of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree and criminal trespass in the second degree; Jan. 8 charges of burglary in the second degree, criminal mischief in the fifth degree, theft in the third degree and theft in the fourth degree; Jan. 19 charges of criminal mischief in the third degree, theft in the fourth degree and criminal trespass in the second degree; and a Jan. 21 charge of criminal mischief in the fifth degree.

Emergency Calls
    Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 8:53 a.m., 10:29 a.m. 3:12 p.m.,4:38 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 6:16 p.m. Thursday.
