LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. The remaining quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief which  distributes them to places around the world in need, such as Ukraine, as part of Personal Care Kits. Sitka Boys, Juneau-Douglas Girls Win Kayhi XC Meet

    Sitka’s Dominic Baciocco, Skyler McIntyre and Joe Pate finished second through fourth behind Juneau-Douglas High School senior Arne Ellefson-Carnes to help the Wolves outscore the Crimson Bears and win the boys race at the Ketchikan Invitational Cross Country Meet on Saturday.
    JDHS junior Sadie Tuckwood won the girls run with teammate Anna Iverson second to lead the Crimson Bears to the team title.
    Ellefson-Carnes ran a 16 minute 10 second 5K for the win in the boys race. Baciocco followed at 16:26, McIntyre 16:27 and Pate 16:37. Rounding out the top 10 were JDHS’ Finn Morley 5th in 17:11, Thunder Mountain’s Tucker Kelly 6th in 17:14, Kake’s Bryce Knudsen 7th in 17:24, Skagway’s Danny Brady 8th in 17:27, Sitka’s Tabor Buxton 9th in 17:29 and JDHS’ Ronan Davies 10th in 17:29.
    The Wolves’  Kobi Weiland placed 16th in 17:53, Derek Bartlett 19th in 17:58 and Rio Behnken Barkhau 31st in 18:55.
    Mt. Edgeumbe’s Brayden Bahnke (from Nome) was the top Braves runner, finishing 33rd in 18:57, Sitka’s Noah Blackmon was 36th in 19:08, MEHS’ Dayton Hoblet (False Pass) 41st in 19:36, MEHS’ Leon Evon (Bethel) 45th in 19:45, MEHS’ David Bahnke (Nome) 52nd in 20:01, SHS’ Hahlen Behnken Barkhau 54th in 20:09, and MEHS’ Kahliel Martin (Bethel) 66th in 20:56.
    Tuckwood continues to be a minute above her Southeast female competition, hitting 18:11 for the win, with Iverson at 19:12, Petersburg’s Maia Cown was 3rd in 19:51, JDHS’ Katherine McKenna fourth in 20:25, Thunder Mountain’s Hannah Deer 5th in 20:44, TMHS’ Kiah Dihle 6th in 20:47, PSG’s Kendra Coonrad 7th in 20:50, JDHS’ Annika Schwartz 8th in 20:55, JDHS’ Jasmin Holst 9th in 20:58 and JDHS’ Trinity Jackson 10th in 21:08.
    Top runner from “the rock” was Mt. Edgecumbe’s Brystel Charlie (Kwethluk) placing 21st in 22:18 and Sitka’s Tawny Smith finishing 25th in 22:39. The Wolves’ Ella Lubin was 26th in 22:51, Addie Poulson 36th in 24:12 and Audrey Saiz 38th in 24:31. MEHS’ Marita Tutunnoak (Quinhagok) was 39th in 24:31, SHS’ Olivia Wilcox 43rd in 24:56, MEHS’ Jaylin Martinez (Tuluksak) 44th in 25:01, MEHS’ Adeline Dyment (Bethel) 45th in 25:01, SHS’ Haley Bartolaba 50th in 25:28, MEHS’ Kayla Kashevarolf (Anchorage) 51st in 25:41, MEHS’ Alexis Rexford (52nd in 25:42 and MEHS’ Liliana White 58th in 26:28.
    Mt. Edgecumbe and Sitka will compete at the Southeast Region V Cross Country Championships in Juneau on Saturday.
