Power Outage Planned Wed.
By Sentinel Staff
The city electric department has announced a planned power outage 2-4 p.m. Wednesday that will impact Alice Loop, Coast Guard housing, the Coast Guard Air Station, airport, and the city waste water treatment plant.
The planned outage will allow the electric department to install replacement conductors near the airport.
“This has been a long time coming,” Bertacchi said. “There are some overhead transmission lines between the old waste water treatment building and Alice Loop area, going towards the airport, and they go from horizontal to vertical in that run.”
In high winds the lines slap together, which has historically caused many outages, and the Department of Transportation’s changes to that area make access difficult for line crews, he said.
“It has been in the works for over 15 years to put that section underground,” Bertacchi said. “So that section is going into conduit over there. We have to shut down to do it safely with personnel, so we have to shut it off for just a couple hours to make those high voltage terminations.”
