LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. Police Blotter
Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
October 16
At 7:10 a.m. a caller said a neighbor’s trash can was tipped over, in the 3500 block of HPR. A message was left for the neighbor to clean up the trash.
At 2 p.m. a caller said a highly intoxicated man was walking on Harbor Drive toward the bridge. Officers didn’t find anyone matching his description.
A caller said his dad’s gun was stolen from his truck, on Price Street.
At 2:39 p.m. a caller said a man had passed out on the back steps of a downtown business. Police found he was able to care for himself, and he left.
A caller said he’d sent a day employee to make change for a $50 bill and he hadn’t returned. The caller wasn’t sure of the employee’s name.
At 7:09 p.m. a caller at the airport said a kid driving a bus for a hotel almost sideswiped him. The caller yelled “I’m not going to put up with this,” police said. Advised to speak to an officer at the police department, he parked in front of the station, called the PD demanding an officer call him because he didn’t have time for this. He was instructed to park in a parking space and await an officer, and he drove off then pulled into the back parking lot, blocking police vehicles. He again called the PD, very upset and impatient, asking how long he was going to have to wait for an officer. He did not wait for an officer and instead drove away. A sergeant was give the information to contact him.
October 17
At 1:10 a.m. a caller reported seeing a sow with a cub running down Darrin Drive carrying a garbage bag in her mouth.
At 3:04 a.m. a caller reported a suspicious man walking on the dock at Eliason Harbor and not seeming to belong to any boat. An officer responded and made note of a vehicle leaving the parking lot as he arrived. The man told the officer he couldn’t sleep and had decided to take a walk and look at the boats. He agreed to leave. Officers saw no signs of a crime.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 3;45 p.m., 3:58 p.m.,8;06 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, and 1:37 a.m.
