LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. Police Blotter
Police received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today:
November 15
An ambulance was requested for a patient staying in short-term housing near the hospital.
At 10:52 a.m. a liquor store employee reported a customer was caught on video stealing a bottle of Bicardi. A criminal trespass order was signed.
At 10:59 a.m. TSA asked for an officer after a passenger was found with a green leafy substance. Police confirmed the passenger had the appropriate paperwork.
At 11:47 a.m. a caller asked for help getting a sibling some mental health help. The sibling was taken into protective custody.
At 21:36 p.m. a caller said the driver of a blue Volvo ran a flashing school bus sign. The plate number given did not match the vehicle description.
Battery chargers were stolen out of the back of an SUV at Starrigavan while the owner was hunting.
At 4:08 p.m. a wallet was stolen out of a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Lincoln Street.
At 7 p.m. a caller reported individuals were sleeping on and off for several days in the 600 block of Etolin Street. The caller said she was concerned “they were up to no good.” Officers were advised.
At 7:14 p.m. a 911 caller said his grandmother had grabbed him by the neck, and his sister was trying to grab the phone away from him. Police found that the grandmother had been trying to take the caller to his room to calm down, and there was no evidence of a crime.
At 8:45 p.m. a loud argument was reported on Georgeson Loop which turned out to be a dispute between a parent and child. There was no sign of a crime.
At 10:34 p.m. a fire truck responded to a fire alarm at the Sawmill Cove Industrial Park.
At 10:42 p.m. a caller reported a verbal dispute outside a hotel. It turned out to be a group celebrating a wedding anniversary.
November 16
At 1:39 a.m. a resident called 911 to report a man screaming in the 300 block of Seward Street. Nothing was amiss when police arrived.
At 1:41 a.m. a caller reported hearing people screaming and making threats, and a woman saying “get off me.” Police talked to a woman who said there had been an argument. In a consented search of her, police found an unused syringe. She was given a ride to a residence nearby. She told police there was an altercation between two men who were gone from the area.
At 2:02 a.m. a man complained about music blaring out of a boom box near an alley off Seward Street. It turned out to be music from a nearby bar and officers advised the manager to turn it down.
At 2:18 a.m. a Lincoln Street resident reported a dispute in a nearby apartment, which turned out to be a man and woman arguing. They agreed to calm down for the night.
At 2:30 a.m. an ambulance was requested for a woman who had fallen and cut the back of her head.
At 5:23 a.m. an ambulance was called for a woman who had fallen and may have injured her back.
At 6:06 a.m. a caller reported a possibly intoxicated person was standing in the middle of the 2500 block of HPR, causing a motorist to swerve to avoid hitting him. Police were unable to find the man.
In Court
Reginald I. Baggen, 40, was sentenced to 30 days, with 27 suspended, and fined $1,500 on a charge of driving under the influence. He will be on probation for a year, his license will be revoked for 90 days and he is to complete counseling.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received requests for ambulances at 2:28 and 5:26 a.m. today.
The fire hall responded to three fire alarms, all of which turned out to be false. One was at 10:42 a.m. Thursday at 115 College Drive: one at 2:22 p.m. Thursday in the 4500 block of SMC, and the last at 12:33 a.m. today, in the 4400 block of SMC.
