LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. Sitka Police
Police received the following calls as of 8 a.m. today.
November 30
Officers stood by while a man retrieved his belongings from an apartment where he’d been trespassed.
A caller asked for a check on a grandmother who is caretaker for children and might be intoxicated. Officers found she was not impaired, just overwhelmed by being the only one caring for the children while their mom is out of town. She was advised to call the PD if she was feeling too overwhelmed and police would find help for her.
At 6:31 p.m. TSA said parts of a gun were found in a passenger’s carry-on. Later, TSA said help was not needed.
At 7 p.m. a caller reported a drug deal being made out of a vehicle in the 1300 block of SMC.
December 1
At 1:21 p.m. a caller reported a traffic accident with damage at Lake and Seward streets.
At 2:37 p.m. a caller said three men were smoking outside a bar on Lincoln Street. An officer spoke to them and they left the area.
At 3:23 p.m. a caller said two men came aboard his vehicle at Eliason Harbor, tried to steal something and ran off. Officers found the item was a cooler. One man was trespassed and a vehicle was impounded.
At 3:40 p.m. a caller reported a fender bender at Lake and Seward.
A motel reported a theft and asked police to check surveillance of the area.
At 6:18 p.m. a 911 caller at Eliason Harbor said a man who’d been on his boat earlier had returned.
A mother talked to police about a posting on her son’s FB page that seemed to be suicidal. She called back later to say she’d talked to him.
At 10:21 p.m. a caller said she hadn’t heard from her daughter since the previous evening and had received some troubling messages on her phone.
At 10:28 p.m. a caller said her daughter’s boyfriend might be at the residence though he wasn’t supposed to be. An officer found the lights out and didn’t get a response at the door.
December 2
EMS was called for a woman reported to be incoherent and shaking.
At 9 p.m. a caller said a pile of dog feces was left on her porch.
At 23:49 p.m. a taxi driver reported dropping off a highly intoxicated fare who’d had trouble getting onto a boat hauled out in the 5000 block of HPR. An officer helped him aboard.
Sitka Police
Rafael R. Allensworth, 54, was charged Friday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
Alanna L. Swanberg, 26, was charged Friday with criminal trespass in the first degree and concealment of merchandise.
Mark B. Manuel, 31, was charged early Saturday morning with violating conditions of release by consuming alcohol and entering a bar.
Ann Marie Morris, 35, was charged early Saturday morning with driving under the influence, eluding, refusal to submit to a chemical test, having an open container in a vehicle, driving in violation of an instructional permit, and reckless driving.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received five ambulance calls Friday, three on Saturday and three Sunday.
At 6:18 p.m. Friday an engine was sent to 109 Erler Street where heat tape on a pipe had set off an attic fire. Damage was minimal.
At 7:13 p.m. Saturday an engine was sent to Flume Circle where burnt food had set off an alarm but no fire.
On Sunday, an engine was sent to 102 Rudolph Walton Circle where a furnace had caused smoke, and at 2:38 p.m. another engine was sent to Blatchley where a pull box alarm had been pulled by accident.
Marriages

Coast Guard
The U.S. Coast Guard assisted in a search for a 19-year-old man lost in the woods near Hoonah late Friday night, and on Saturday an Air Station Sitka helicopter medvacked a 22-year-old hiker who had injured her ankle while on Herbert Glacier near Auke Bay.
The teen had become disoriented while in the woods Friday and had managed to provide his position to his mother via cell phone by about 9:30 p.m. A Coast Guard helicopter arrived about 11:30 p.m. to join Troopers and Juneau Mountain Rescue. The teen was found mildly hypothermic but otherwise in good condition Saturday morning.
The hiker medvacked Saturday was part of a photography group and received on-scene aid until the Coast Guard air crew arrived to fly her to Juneau.
