LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. The following calls were logged before 8 a.m. today:
Jan. 18
A SMC resident said her golden retriever, Zeus, was missing. She asked if he’s located to have the ACO take him to the Pet Store, where he goes daily.
A caller said a Fedex package was signed for but never delivered to him.
At 4:33 p.m. a caller said three shady men were hanging around outside a condo on Harvest Way.
At 7 p.m. a caller reported hearing thumping and a child crying at a neighbor’s. Officers spoke to a woman who said her kids were wrestling and no help was needed.
A woman reported refusing to leave a bar and not come back was taken into protective custody.
January 19
At 3:33 a.m. a caller asked police to remove a woman from her home who had punched her multiple times and wouldn’t leave. Officers spoke to the two; neither wanted to press charges.
At 12:42 p.m. a caller said an eagle apparently hit a power line at 307 Cascade Street and was deceased. Police and the Raptor Center disposed of it.
At 3 p.m. a caller said the sink in the men’s restroom at ANB Harbor was broken and water was overflowing.
A caller said a woman had threatened suicide. The woman told officers she didn’t plan to commit suicide.
January 20
At 6 a.m. a man was reported too intoxicated to board an airplane. Officers spoke to him, and he agreed to leave the airport until sober for his flight.
A woman was reported making suicidal comments on facebook. She told police she was not thinking of suicide.
A caller who found a wallet in the woods was to take it to the PD.
Gloves were found at Starrigavan.
January 21
At 3:19 a.m. loud music was reported at Baranof cemetery. An officer talked to a man, who agreed to leave.
At 5:43 a.m. a man was reported lying on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of HPR. Due to his level of intoxication he was take into protective custody.
At 8 a.m. police were asked to document damage to Baranof Laundry.
At 10 a.m. a man was reported messing with a sign on Katlian. Officers didn’t see any damage but noted two signs had stickers on them.
A caller said she believed her roommate might have stolen medications and might be selling them.
Sitka Police
Shea L. Grogan, 30, was charged Saturday with driving under the influence.
Francis Enrique Mendez, 37, was charged Sunday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
Amelia Merculief, 20, was charged Sunday with criminal mischief in the fifth degree, domestic violence.
Joel C. Brown, 38, was charged Sunday with driving with a revoked license.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received four ambulance calls Friday, four Saturday, two Sunday and three Monday.
At 6:02 p.m. Sunday an alarm went off at the Bayview building 407 Lincoln Street, but the cause could not be determined.
Coast Guard
A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Sitka copter crew flew a pregnant 27-year-old woman experiencing bleeding and pain in the lower abdomen from Kake to Sitka.
On Sunday evening, a 62-year-old woman with slurred speech and left side paralysis from Hoonah to Sitka.
