TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The following calls came in by 8 a.m. today.
March 18
At 7:18 a.m. a caller said he was at a grocery store and planned to hang himself. Police were unable to locate him. He called later to say the police department is corrupt and he didn’t want any help.
At 10:51 a.m. police received a complaint about an ATV on the Kimsham field. Police found the rider was dressing the field.
A caller said a fraudulent online purchase was made with her debit card.
A resident asked for an ambulance because she had stroke symptoms.
A license plate was reported stolen sometime in the last six months.
Police received a domestic violence order denial.
At 6:32 p.m. a head-on accident with injuries was reported at SMC and Price Street.
A hospital worker asked police to place a person in protective custody. Police found the person didn’t meet the requirements.
A black kitten with no tail was reported missing on Lance Drive.
At 9:45 p.m. a man on Katlian Street was taken into protective custody.
Grand Jury
A grand jury on Thursday indicted Luke A. McGraw, 45, on a charge of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree. He was alleged to have possessed with the intent to deliver methamphetamine, on March 3. A jury trial was set for May 13, and bail was set at $2,500.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received an ambulance call at 3:05 p.m. Monday.
At 6:31 p.m. Monday a fire truck and two ambulances were sent to the intersection of Price Street and SMC, where a head-on collision was reported.

Businesses using the Centennial Hall parking lot testified Tuesday against a proposal to charge them rent in addition to the $200 annual permit fee. City Administrator Hugh Bevan made the proposal in response to the Assembly’s direction to Centennial Hall manager Don Kluting to try to close the $340,000 gap between building revenues and operational costs.
