TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The following calls came in by 8 a.m. today.
March 19
A bright orange ladder was reported stolen from 2 Lincoln Street.
At noon, a man was reported asleep on the ground by the ANB Harbor restrooms. The man told officers he was off a herring boat and was just taking a nap. He did not appear to be under the influence, and left the area on foot.
A phone found near Westmark was turned in.
At 3:08 p.m. a caller said a man who had been trespassed from Centennial Hall was sitting outside on a bench. An officer reminded him of the trespass order and he agreed to move on.
At 5:09 p.m. a caller said a woman who had gotten out of a vehicle with another woman in the 2300 block of SMC was going onto property she had been told by DOT to stay off of. An officer told the women they were to leave and stay away or face being arrested.
At 7:26 p.m. a caller said people took a ladder and went into a house on Kaagwaantaan. A man told officers he was doing yard work. No signs of a crime were found.
A caller, who had gone into a friend’s house to make sure all firearms were accounted for after someone had been staying there, asked for police assistance with drugs that were found.
March 20
At 1:08 a.m. a 911 caller reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot in the 200 block of Lincoln Street. Several people walking in the area said it sounded like fireworks. Officers found no evidence of a gun being shot.
At 2:48 a.m. a 911 caller said a bear was at his girlfriend’s campsite at Herring Cove and they were afraid it would attack their tent. Officers found no bear. The campers were offered a ride back to town but decided to stay the rest of the night.

Derek J. Daly, 28, was arrested on two Anchorage state trooper felony warrants for failure to comply with felony probation. He additionally was charged with misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree, resisting arrest and providing false information.
In Court
Ty Walker Davis, 23, on a charge of theft in the third degree was sentenced to 15 days. On a charge of violating conditions of release he was sentenced to five days, with the sentences to be served consecutively. Charges of criminal trespass in the second degree and theft in the fourth degree were dismissed.
Terry A. Carlson, 18, on two charges of theft in the third degree was sentenced to 15 days, suspended, on each charge and is to be on probation a year. A charge of theft in the fourth degree was dismissed.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 4:53 p.m. and 9:17 p.m. Tuesday and 7:54 a.m. today.
Engines were dispatched Tuesday to 205 Lincoln Street at 2:12 p.m.; to Blatchley Middle School at 2:41 p.m.; and the Pioneers Home at 3:47 p.m., but all turned out to be false alarms.

Businesses using the Centennial Hall parking lot testified Tuesday against a proposal to charge them rent in addition to the $200 annual permit fee. City Administrator Hugh Bevan made the proposal in response to the Assembly’s direction to Centennial Hall manager Don Kluting to try to close the $340,000 gap between building revenues and operational costs.
