TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The following calls came in by 8 a.m. today.
March 20
At 10:10 a.m. police were asked to help a woman with a baby get back into her home.
At 10:24 a.m. a hotel asked for assistance contacting an unknown man believed to be busting open an ashtray on the outside of the building to obtain cigarettes. Officers were unable to find a man matching the description.
A caller said a man had passed out under her neighbor’s boat. Officers contacted the man, who lives at the house and is able to care for himself.
A 911 caller who had smashed her fingers between a bike and a hard surface was taken to a hospital.
At 1 p.m. a 911 caller said a Jeep had gone into the ditch at Granite Creek Road and HPR, and the driver may have hit his head. He was taken to a hospital.
At 4:22 p.m. a caller said kids had set up blocks in the 700 block of Sirstad and were playing kickball. An officer didn’t find any children or anything in the street.
At 8:29 p.m. a caller reported drug paraphernalia had been found in a hotel room.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 12:24 p.m. and 11:49 p.m. Wednesday and 9:31 a.m. today.
At 1:07 p.m. Wednesday an ambulance and an engine were dispatched to the 3500 block and Granite Creek Road where a vehicle had gone into a ditch. The driver was taken to a hospital, police said.

Businesses using the Centennial Hall parking lot testified Tuesday against a proposal to charge them rent in addition to the $200 annual permit fee. City Administrator Hugh Bevan made the proposal in response to the Assembly’s direction to Centennial Hall manager Don Kluting to try to close the $340,000 gap between building revenues and operational costs.
