TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The following calls came in by 8 a.m. today.
March 21
Two bikes found at 106 Sunset Drive were dropped off at the station.
At 8:26 p.m. a caller reported seeing a deer that was unafraid of traffic. The deer’s location wasn’t listed.
At 8:35 p.m. a caller said a possibly intoxicated woman wasn’t letting them leave Sitka National Cemetery. Officers found no sign of a crime, and determined the woman was able to care for herself.
At 9:35 p.m. a caller in the 2200 block of SMC said someone hit a black Lab. The person who hit the dog called police to say the owner was there and the dog was being cared for.
March 22
At 6 a.m. a caller said a man had passed out in a neighbor’s car on Oja Street. Officers found the man was intoxicated but able to care for himself. He was advised to go home.
At 6:53 a.m. a 911 caller said a man had fallen and hit his head at 200 Katlian. EMS was called.
In Court
Keith R. Perkins, 58, on a Dec. 30, 2018, charge of driving under the influence was sentenced to 30 days with 27 suspended with the three days to be served via house arrest; fined $3,000 with $1,500 suspended; and ordered to get treatment. He will be on probation for one year, and his license was revoked for 90 days.
Grand Jury
Chelsea Ann Michael, 19, was indicted by a Sitka grand jury Thursday on charges of assault in the first degree, a class A felony, and assault in the second degree, a class B felony. She is accused of injuring a man with a hunting knife on March 16.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 9:31 a.m. Thursday and 6:57 a.m. today.
At 7:29 a.,m. Thursday an engine was sent to Kainulainen Drive where a controlled burn was taking place.

Businesses using the Centennial Hall parking lot testified Tuesday against a proposal to charge them rent in addition to the $200 annual permit fee. City Administrator Hugh Bevan made the proposal in response to the Assembly’s direction to Centennial Hall manager Don Kluting to try to close the $340,000 gap between building revenues and operational costs.
