TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The fire hall received the call about the fire at 5:33 p.m., and one fire engine with eight firefighters and an ambulance were dispatched, he said. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)

Sitka police logged the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
June 19
A caller on Granite Creek Road said someone had smeared animal feces all over his vehicle including door handles.
A dog named Rambo was impounded after its caretakers failed to show up to claim it at the rescuer’s home.
A caller said a dock cart he’d secured by cables near the restrooms at Eliason Harbor had been stolen in the last three weeks. The cart, a Rubbermaid brand with SV BOB written on it, was valued at $250.
A man who suffered a seizure at a hotel was taken to a hospital.
A traveler said he’d left his pack, containing an iPad, medications, binoculars and sunglasses, in a taxi but the driver said it wasn’t in the taxi and he’d had other fares since. While the traveler was at the police station, the taxi driver called to say he’d found the pack.
A silver and red Mongoose bike was reported stolen from a lobby downtown.
At 8:23 p.m. a 911 caller said a juvenile had collapsed, possibly related to a bee sting. EMS transport was refused.
At 9:24 p.m. a caller said a grandmother had left two granddaughters home by themselves while she went out drinking. A second caller reported the same. An officer found the grandmother was home and the children were being cared for.
At 10:13 p.m. an eagle with an injured eye was reported on Eagle Way. The Raptor Center was contacted.
At 11:41 p.m. a caller reported finding an unattended campfire and a vehicle with broken windows at Herring Cove. Police knew about the vehicle.
June 20
At 3:19 a.m. a caller said individuals they believed to be involved with drugs were milling around a grocery store parking lot. Officers found no evidence of a crime.
At 5 a.m. a 911 caller said a truck driver had cut in front of him on Alice Loop/Airport Road, jumped the curb, and gone through trees onto the next road over. Officers found damage to the foliage but didn’t locate the truck.

Anna M. Cook, 28, was charged with two counts of misconduct involving a weapon in the fourth degree late Wednesday night after a 911 caller had reported a rifle being shot outdoors in a residential neighborhood.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received four ambulance calls Wednesday.
At 1:24 p.m. Wednesday a fire call at 200 Flume Circle turned out to be burned toast.

Businesses using the Centennial Hall parking lot testified Tuesday against a proposal to charge them rent in addition to the $200 annual permit fee. City Administrator Hugh Bevan made the proposal in response to the Assembly’s direction to Centennial Hall manager Don Kluting to try to close the $340,000 gap between building revenues and operational costs.
