TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The fire hall received the call about the fire at 5:33 p.m., and one fire engine with eight firefighters and an ambulance were dispatched, he said. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)

Sitka police logged the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
June 24
Police tagged a number of vehicles on Eagle Beach.
At 7:39 a.m. a man screaming and yelling at passersby on Lincoln Street was given a warning and left the area.
A man on Castle Hill asked for help because he was not feeling well and was sad. An ambulance was called for him.
Women arguing in a grocery store parking lot around 5 p.m. were advised of their options.
A caller said a stray Boston terrier was at his Georgeson Loop home, and he would keep it for the night unless it was claimed.
An ambulance was called for a woman who fell. She didn’t appear to have injuries, her son said, but he would like her checked out.
At 10:56 p.m. a man said he gave permission to his brother to borrow his van but it was missing from the Eliason Harbor parking lot when the brother went to collect it. Police found it there, but it was occupied by a man and woman. The woman showed police text messages from the owner granting her permission to borrow the vehicle.
June 25
At 5:50 a.m. a man was seen trying to tow a vehicle that had only three wheels, in the 300 block of SMC. The man told police he was just moving the vehicle across the lot and would not be going on the road.

Businesses using the Centennial Hall parking lot testified Tuesday against a proposal to charge them rent in addition to the $200 annual permit fee. City Administrator Hugh Bevan made the proposal in response to the Assembly’s direction to Centennial Hall manager Don Kluting to try to close the $340,000 gap between building revenues and operational costs.
