Volunteers Sought
For Monthly Grind
The Sitka Monthly Grind is preparing for its 25th season and is requesting volunteers.
‘‘We find that if the Sitka Monthly Grind is to continue, the current producers need help,’’ said Sitka Monthly Grind organizer Jeff Budd.
The plan is to have fewer grinds per season, October through April, Budd said. The philosophy of family oriented, nonpolitical and affordable entertainment will continue.
The group plans to charge $5 admission for those age 5 and older, and not reimburse people who take a homemade dessert. Three first-place prizes (value $15 each) will continue.
‘‘This financial change reflects rising costs, including an annual accounting/insurance fee to the Greater Sitka Arts Council, whose umbrella we are under, printing tickets $25 a month, rent at $350 to $600 per show, and dessert supplies,’’ Budd said.
Those wanting to help keep the Sitka Monthly Grind alive can volunteer for the following.
–Help move sound equipment at 1:30 p.m. on the day of the shows, set up for sound check and the show, then move equipment back to storage about 9:30 p.m.
–Learn stage management and/or run the sound board.
–Meet briefly once a month to help producer plan future shows. Individuals can produce a show themselves with help from producers.
Contact Budd at 747-4821 or jbudd3500@gmail.com or Ted Howard at 747 5482 or jstoh@gci.net.
