Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
September 11
A gallon Ziploc bag containing medications was found at Moller.
At 7:42 a.m. a caller said a bear got into a trash container at the animal shelter and spread garbage around. The animal control officer picked it up.
At 11 a.m. a bear was reported in the back of offices and apartments near Sitka National Park then left the area, police were told.
A man said his son’s keys were stolen from the ignition of a vehicle at a Ross Drive home. The man said he had video.
At 5:42 p.m. a caller said a man was drinking and “talking jibberish” at the skate park. Police talked to a man there, who said he’d been drinking earlier but not at the skate park. Police disposed of his open container. He told police he was waiting for a skipper to come by since they walk through the area to get to the harbor, and he can’t go to the harbor due to a court order. He was told of the complaint and advised to behave appropriately with kids around.
At 6:20 p.m. woman said a tenant on Monastery Street stole both of her walkers. She called back later to say the man returned her walkers, but in the process assaulted her by pushing her violently. Charges of assault are being forwarded to the district attorney.
A Blu phone was turned in from Katlian Street.
At 8:48 p.m. a caller said a young woman and her father appeared to be arguing with a man, and the caller was concerned because of the age of the woman. Police were advised.

At 2:48 a.m. police cited a person for littering in the 2500 block of HPR and issued a warning about the registration and title on the vehicle.
Police handled a number of parking issues, and cited four for parking between 4 and 7 a.m. on Lincoln Street.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 12:38 and 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, and 9:08 a.m. today.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
