CG Medevacs Man Near Yakutat
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter crew on Wednesday medevacked a 71-year-old man with stroke symptoms from the cruise ship Oosterdam near Yakutat to Sitka.
The Oosterdam crew had requested the medevac around 9 a.m. from 13 miles off the entrance to Dry Bay. The helicopter had been on a training flight at the time and diverted to the area, arriving at 11:13 a.m. to lower a rescue swimmer and litter. The swimmer was recovered afterward with a bare hook, the Coast Guard said.
added in a news release.
“The air crew departed the scene and made best speed back to Air Station Sitka, where EMS was waiting with an ambulance,” said Lt. Kyle Johnson, co-pilot on the medevac. The patient was transferred in stable condition at 1 p.m. to awaiting EMS in Sitka.
