Coast Guard Respond to 3 Emergency Medical Calls Monday
Coast Guard
Coast Guard Air Station helicopter crews had a busy night Monday with three emergency medical calls, and three patients taken to Juneau.
On the first call, a 78-year-old woman with possible stroke symptoms and hip pain was picked up in Hoonah. Original plans called for her to be flown to Sitka, but midflight the crew received a report of another medical emergency in Skagway, so the woman was dropped off with an ambulance crew in Juneau for further medical care.
In Juneau, a Guardian flight nurse was picked up for a medical emergency involving a 59-year-old patient with possible internal bleeding in Skagway. The patient was taken to Juneau, where the crew spent the night, the Coast Guard said.
Early Tuesday morning, the crew was called back to Hoonah to medevac a 18-year-old woman with internal bleeding. She was taken to Juneau for care. On the way home to Sitka, the helicopter was diverted to Fish Bay to help find two hunters who were overdue. (See Tuesday’s Sentinel.)
