LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
November 20
The Department of Transportation asked officers to provide traffic control at 9:30 a.m. while DOT cleaned up the road at Indian River Bridge.
Police are investigating a report of criminal mischief.
At 11:33 a.m. a caller said a small wire-hair mix dog with a gray raincoat had escaped out the door of a residence in the 2800 block of SMC.
At 12:53 a.m. a dog that appeared to be blind was reported in the middle of DeGroff Street. It was gone when the ACO checked.
Possible bear activity was reported at 1:53 p.m. at the end of Charlie Joseph Street.
At 2:46 p.m. a caller said a neighbor apparently put garbage out early and it may have been hit by a bear, in the 1900 block of Cascade Creek Road.
A liquor store employee signed a criminal trespass order.
At 5:35 p.m. a resident complained about fireworks being set off near Lance Drive. Police advised the people setting them off about the city ordinance, and told them to stop.
At 11:38 p.m. a resident complained about fireworks near the Pioneers Home. The person who set them off was gone when police checked.
November 21
A resident asked for an ambulance for his wife.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received ambulance requests at 11:04 a.m. Wednesday, and 4:18 a.m. and 5:53 a.m. today.
In Court
Adam Avila, 43, was ordered to serve 45 days for violating probation. He is to receive credit for time served and spend up to six months at a Community Residential Center, at the direction of his probation officer.
