LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
November 29
A downtown store said a man walked in, took a board that was on the wall and walked out with it. A trespass order against him was signed.
A 911 caller said people on the beach had come up to the caller’s home. Officers advised three people not to go onto other people’s property.
At 10:33 p.m. a caller reported seeing people drinking and smoking marijuana on Eagle Way. Officers made contact with two males and a female.
At 10:34 p.m. a 911 caller said a man who’d been running and looked in distress at Monastery and SMC told him a driver in a pickup was chasing him. The caller said he’d picked up the man and dropped him off at an address.
At 11:24 p.m. a woman was reported lying on the ground at 338 Lincoln. She left before police arrived.
November 30
At 2:44 a.m. a caller said a woman was too intoxicated to get out of a cab. She was left in the care of an adult in a nearby residence.
At 3:22 a.m. a man and woman were reported arguing loudly in the Post Office parking lot. They were gone when officers arrived.
At 9:23 a.m. a caller said her nephew had fallen at 901 Lincoln Street. He was taken to the hospital.
At 3:42 p.m. a store said a man was creating a disturbance. An officer found him a short ways away, and he agreed not to return.
At 7:32 p.m. a caller said people staying in a trailer on Katlian didn’t have running water and he’d seen them empty feces and urine into the street. An officer talked to a man and woman who said they’d dumped out sink water. No evidence of substances were found in the drain or roadway.
December 1
At 12:31 a.m. a man said a woman in a small black car nearly hit him as he walked along 1207 SMC.
At 5:37 a.m. a caller said a man was passed out in the middle of Smith Street. Officers found he’d been drinking but was able to care for himself, and he left.
A caller said a driver passed him at high speed, and might be impaired. The driver was not impaired but was cited on other violations.
Two females stole items from a Lincoln Street store, returned them, and got criminal trespass warnings.
At 6:15 p.m. a man said his wife choked and hit him. The couple told police they had used meth the previous day and were intoxicated. The man was uninjured.
Officers told the people in an abandoned and inoperative vehicle to leave the area of Eagle Beach.
Sitka Police
Samone S. Lyons, 30, was charged Friday night with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a breath test, and providing false information
Alfred P. Mokofisi, 30, was cited Sunday for no proof of insurance, driving with a license revoked, and talking on a cell phone while driving.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received five ambulance calls Friday, two Saturday and one today before 10 a.m.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter and Station Juneau boat searched for four hours Friday after an unmanned boat was found adrift, with the engine running but not in gear, north of the Juneau-Douglas bridge, the Coast Guard said today.
A 911 caller had reported seeing the drifting boat at around 10:30 a.m., and the Coast Guard had started a search for anyone overboard.
The vessel owner and a possible passenger were found to be safe, and no other reports came in about missing mariners. The vessel was tied to the dock, and no signs of an accident were found.
It wasn’t known how the vessel got loose or the engine left running, the Coast Guard said.
