Town Hall Slated
Alaska Native Brotherhood Grand Camp President Heather Gurko and Alaska Native Sisterhood Grand Camp President Paulette Moreno will co-host an Alaska Marine Highway System town hall-style meeting 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at the ANB Founders Hall.
‘‘We want to hear, record, and pass on to our state legislators your concerns, ideas, suggestions, and strategies for addressing the proposed cutbacks to marine highway, an important method of travel for our community,’’ ANS and ANB said in a press release. ‘‘The event will be live-streamed by Raven Radio. Please join us for this important conversation.’’

Creative Play at
SJ Museum Set
Creative Play, a new free program for children ages 5 and younger, is planned 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Sheldon Jackson Museum.
It focuses on fostering social skills, movement and creativity, and gives parents and their children a place to gather for imaginative play with sensory toys. A parent must be present and should call 747-8981 to register.
Fortymile River
Presentation Set
As the culmination of a BLM Artist in Residence program on the Fortymile River, Jessica Cherry will give a multimedia presentation about the intersections of resource extraction and personal experience, story and statecraft.
‘‘Veins: Mining Fortymile Country for Stories of the Past and Visions of the Future’’ will be presented 4 p.m. Feb. 29 at Sitka Public Library.
The residency began in 2018 in observance of the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic River Act. Cherry is a scientist, writer and commercial airplane pilot living in Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Episcopal Church
The community is invited to St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church for annual Lent activities.
The annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper will be 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the See House.
Ash Wednesday Services will be held at noon and 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 26.
The quiet day retreat will be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Feb. 29. Those attending are to RSVP by Feb. 27.
Wednesday Holy Communion services will be held 5:30 p.m. March 4-April 8.

Peratrovich Day
Events in Sitka
Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 1 and Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 will host Elizabeth Peratrovich Day events Sunday, Feb. 16.
All are welcome to join the 1 p.m. parade from Crescent Harbor through downtown to the ANB Founders Hall. Those marching should plan to meet at Centennial Hall at noon.
Following the parade, the celebration will continue in the ANB Founders Hall with Alaska Native veterans posting colors, a talk about Elizabeth Peratrovich, and information about the release of the Elizabeth Peratrovich $1 gold coin.
A meal will be served of sisterhood stew, rolls, coffee, tea, potluck dishes and cake, while Native dance groups perform. An opportunity will be given to share the ways Elizabeth Peratrovich has influenced lives, and to learn more about how she fought for civil rights in Alaska.
Those attending are invited to take a potluck dish to share.
Peratrovich is the first civil rights leader in the United States, preceding Martin Luther King by 40 years, who secured equality on many fronts for the Alaska Native peoples, ANB and ANS said in a press release.

Valentine’s Day
Dinner Friday
At ANB Hall
Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 1 and Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 invite the community to the ANB Founders Hall 6 p.m. on Friday, Valentine’s Day.
The spaghetti dinner will include salad, garlic bread, choice of chocolate cake or pineapple upside down cake, coffee, tea and lemonade. Dinner is a $15 donation per person.
Sitka Tribe of Alaska bingo will be available.
All funds raised will support the hosting of Grand Camp at the ANB Founders Hall this fall, where several hundred ANB and ANS camps statewide and down south gather to visit, share meals, and discuss and conduct camp business for several days.
