Sitka Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today.
February 18
An iridescent green bike was picked up by police at the airport.
At 8:31 a.m. a caller said she may have hit another vehicle at Kashavaroff and Edgecumbe streets, and asked for an officer. The vehicle damage turned out to be old, and no help was needed.
At 8:38 a.m. a tool bag was stolen from the 400 block of SMC.
Money found in a grocery store parking lot was turned in.
A number of vehicles were tagged as abandoned.
Police are investigating possible assault charges, of placing others in fear.
A gift card was found on a sidewalk.
A resident talked to police about a fraud that occurred in Fairbanks.
At 8:04 p.m. a caller reported his landlord was trying to steal his belongings. The issue is civil in nature, police said. The parties were advised of their options.
At 8:22 p.m. an off-duty trooper caught young teens trying to enter a business. The owner was called and the kids were chased away. They were advised of the criminal charges they could face.
At 9:10 p.m. a resident reported seeing a man looking in vehicle windows at Crescent Harbor. Police told him to stay away from vehicles.

Louis J. Handerson, 46, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of failing to appear, and violating conditions of release (by failing to appear).
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter flew Tuesday night and today after a flare was spotted near Gravina Island, in the Ketchikan area. Nothing amiss was seen or reported.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received an ambulance call at 3:08 p.m. Tuesday.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
