LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. Police received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
October 22
Between 12:22 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. eight bear calls came in from the 100 block of Harbor Mountain Road and Shuler Drive.
A welfare check was made at the Post Office at 7:19 a.m.
At 2 p.m. a traffic complaint at Lincoln Street and Harbor Drive was logged.
At 8:07 p.m. a bear was reported at Keet Gooshi Heen.
At 8:09 p.m. a bear was reported at 409 Mills Street.
At 10:05 p.m. suspicious activity was reported on Wortman Loop.
At 10:09 p.m. a bear was reported in the 100 block of Indian River Road.
From 11:04 p.m. Thursday through 2:52 a.m. today police received seven bear calls from the 100 block of Darrin Drive, and the 3300 and 3400 blocks of HPR.
October 23
At 3:58 a.m. a bear was reported at 702 Pherson Street.
Emergency Calls
At 10:11 a.m. Thursday Sitka Fire Department sent an ambulance to Blue Lake where a man had gone into the water when his kayak overturned. With the help of another kayaker, he’d made it onto the beach when the ambulance arrived. He was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, as a precaution.
At 1:13 p.m. Thursday, SFD sent an engine to 411 Hollywood Way where food had burned, causing alarm but no fire.
At 8:54 p.m. Thursday an engine was sent to Sweetland Hall on the SJ Campus where steam had set off an alarm.
In Court
Felicia L. Allinger, 28, on a charge of theft in the second degree, access device or ID document, a C felony, committed Jan. 17, 2020, was sentenced to 18 months with 14 months suspended with credit for time served. Dismissed were charges of theft in the fourth degree, violating conditions of release, and three counts of fraud. She will be on probation for three years. On a misdemeanor charge of violating conditions of release, committed Jan. 25, 2020, she was sentenced to 10 days, to be served consecutively to the other sentence. Dismissed by the prosecution were charges of theft in the fourth degree, resisting/interfering with arrest, risk of injury; and disorderly conduct-refusing to disperse. In a Sept. 21, 2019, case, criminal charges of theft in the third degree and eight of forgery in the third degree - making false written instrument were dismissed in a plea agreement.
