Betty Weisenburger
Dies at Age 89
Betty L. Weisenburger died Tuesday at the Sitka Pioneers Home. She was 89.
An obituary will be published later in the Sentinel.
Annual Big Rig
Event on April 10
The 3 to 5 Preschool will hold its 9th annual spring Big Rig fundraiser 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at the Mt. Edgcumbe High School parking lot.
Tickets for the family event cost $5 per person or $20 for a family of four or more.
Food booths with hot dogs, chili dogs, nachos and pancit from Rivera’s Sarap Sarap Authentic Filipino Foods will be for sale. Sitka Swirls also will be on hand to serve ice cream.
Big Rig T-shirts are for sale (XS 4/6 and SM 6/8) for $15. Masks are required for everyone age 3 years and older. Personal hand sanitizers will be available. Challenge on Tap
The Sheet’ká Active Family Outdoor Challenge has begun with dozens of free and fun family activities scheduled.
Individuals can visit www.sitkakids.com to learn more. While all activities are open to the public, some may require pre-registration, organizers said.
Individuals can participate in one activity or all of them and enter the prize drawing for a weekly chance to win gift cards and meals.
Posting photos on the Sitka Kids Facebook page is another way to win.

Sitka’s Citizens Climate Lobby will hold its monthly virtual meeting 9:45-11 a.m. Saturday, April 10.
The national speaker at 9 a.m. will be The Rev. Franklin Ruff of the First Baptist Church in Stillwell, Kansas, and the red co-chair of the Braver Angels Kansas City Alliance. He will talk about how to bridge differences and listen to each other to find common ground for bipartisan solutions.
‘‘Federal and Sitkan climate actions are increasing, so this is a good time to join with others concerned about the urgent need to address global warming,’’ a press release from the group said.

ANS to Meet
The Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 4 will meet 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 12, on Zoom.
Members and those wanting to know more about ANS are invited to join.
The ANS mission is “to better the lives of Native people and their families; to fight for civil rights and land rights for all Native people; to share cultural knowledge, wisdom, and artistic beauty of Native tribal societies, and to strive for a spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood among all people.’’

The Sitka Sportsman’s Association will hold its Gun and Gear Swap and Sell 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 10, at 5211 Halibut Point Road.
Sellers tables for rent are $10 for members and $20 for non-members. Both individuals and businesses can sell at this event and only sellers may arrive at 8 a.m. to set up. Sellers must reserve a table by contacting Chad at 623-0908 or email premiertrainingak@gmail.com.

Sitka Tells Tales, the local live storytelling series, will present “It’s Not Me. It’s You: Stories of Bad Jobs, Horrible Roommates and Broken Hearts” 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, airing and streaming live on KCAW Raven Radio.

This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
