LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
April 10
At 8:42 a.m. a gunshot was reported, possibly from a boat, off the 300 block of Katlian Street. Police found nothing suspicious in the area.
A resident turned in a credit card. The owner to was to pick it up.
A school official asked for help with a parent who keeps calling about a student the courts have ordered him not to contact. Police called the parent and told him to stop calling the school.
A man said several books were stolen from a housing facility six months ago in Sitka, and they had just been recovered in Salt Lake City. He asked for help getting the books back to Sitka.
At 3:43 p.m. police documented a minor traffic accident in the 900 block of HPR. One of the drivers was cited for failing to have proof of insurance and given a warning for being in violation of her provisional license.
At 6:41 p.m. a man said his daughter was bitten by a neighbor’s dog on Georgeson Loop. The bite didn’t break the skin but the dog was aggressive, the caller said. Police were unable to locate the owner.
Police responded to a request for a criminal trespass notice at a store.
Police checked on a report of a domestic conflict, but found no evidence of a crime after talking to both parties.
At 8:33 p.m. a caller reported four vehicles racing each other back and forth on Jamestown Drive. Police were unable to locate the vehicles.
At 9:25 p.m. police notified the harbor department that an alarm was going off on a boat in Eliason Harbor, but nothing was found amiss.
At 10:41 p.m. police checked on a report of a maroon truck being driven in an erratic manner in the 900 block of Sawmill Creek Road. Police found the vehicle, and noted it was being driven normally.
April 11
A resident complained about alarms going off continually on Burkhart Street around 1:20 a.m. Police talked to the building manager, who said this occurs after a power outage, and he would take care of the problem.
At 1:59 a.m. a man was reported with an open container of alcohol in the 200 block of Katlian Street.
A caller asked for help dealing with her boyfriend, who was out of control and intoxicated. The boyfriend left before police arrived. Officers noted the caller was intoxicated but able to care for herself.
At 2:09 a.m. a resident reported a power line sparking next to his house in the 400 block of Katlian Street. The electric department was notified.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 12:15 and 5:32 p.m. Thursday, and 7:26 a.m. today.
