AC Closes Storefront On Cathedral Way

Alaska Communications is closing its storefront office at 107 Cathedral Way at the end of September, but the company says customers can continue to receive service and wireless products at the two local “agent locations.”

The two employees at the Cathedral Way office have been offered call center jobs with the company and can work remotely out of Sitka, said Hannah Blankenship, AC associate manager for corporate communications in Anchorage.
The two Alaska Communications agent locations in Sitka are Alaska Commercial (AC Lakeside) at 705 Halibut Point Road, Suite B, and Alaska Computer Center at 204 Katlian St. Customers can also call the company for help at 800-808-8083.
Alaska Communications is also closing its storefront in Homer.
“We’re just focusing our business and resources on our agent locations,” Blankenship said. “We have agents in both areas our customers already know and frequent.”
The last day the storefront will be open is Sept. 30, she said.
Alaska Communications, formerly known as Alaska Communications Systems, is headquartered in Anchorage. The company provides local and long-distance phone service, and wireless phone and internet services in Sitka and throughout Alaska.
Alaska Communications owns the building on Cathedral Way, built in 1958 by the locally-owned Sitka Telephone Company, which was sold in 1980 in the first of the mergers and reorganizations that absorbed it into ACS.
