The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Oct. 24
A Raleigh beach cruiser was stolen.
A cat with behavioral problems was left at the shelter.
A motorized EV Warrior was reportedly abandoned on private property.
A man said he had trouble getting the attention of a reckless driver. The driver denied driving recklessly, and said the man had been harassing him.
A 20-day domestic violence order was given to police to serve.
A man said he hadn’t been able to reach his two children for a week. They were in the custody of grandparents, whose phone is disconnected. Police found the children were fine.
At 7:57 p.m. intoxicated people were reported at the fishermen’s wall.
At 9:18 p.m. a caller said a man was violating a restraining order by following the caller. Officers spoke to both.
Oct. 25
At 6:15 a.m. a bear was seen getting into garbage on Andrew Hope Street.
At 7:32 p.m. a caller said roosters at three different Biorka Street residences were causing a disturbance.
At 9:16 p.m. a caller said her foster child had snuck out. Officers found the girl at a man’s house, and returned her home. They warned the man about interfering with custody, minor consuming and furnishing alcohol.
A minor traffic accident was reported in the 500 block of Katlian Street.
Library staff said a man was upset over a book that he tried to return then lost. He was intoxicated but able to care for himself. The book was located.
At 10:14 p.m. a driver went into a ditch in the 2900 block of HPR. Police said he’d be cited for negligent driving.
Oct. 26
At 2:14 a.m. a caller said a woman was banging on a door trying to get into a residence and damaging the door, on Orion Street. The woman told police she would stay elsewhere for the night.
At 2:18 p.m. an intoxicated man was reported in the middle of Peterson Street. Another man said he would care for his friend.
At 6:54 a.m. a caller said jewelry and a bowl full of change were taken from her home on Lance Drive.
At 2:53 p.m. a 911 caller said she was being held against her will by her parents. Police determined no violence had occurred. Both parents and child were advised of their options.
At 5:48 p.m. a resident reported his dog was attacked by a neighbor’s dog. The animal control officer was notified.
At 11:37 p.m. a bear was reported on Andrew Hope Street.
Sitka Police
Maria Brooks, 41, was charged with driving in violation of an instruction permit on Saturday.
Corey Kadake, was charged with minor operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol, failing to have a valid license, and minor consuming.
In Court
Arvin D. Cariaga, 18, was fined $600, with $400 suspended, on each of two counts of minor consuming. He will be on probation for a year, and is complete alcohol information school.
Allison J. Massey, 26, was sentenced to 45 days, with 42 suspended, and fined $2,000, with $500 suspended, for driving under the influence. She is to complete an evaluation, and will be on probation for a year. Her license will be suspended for 90 days.
A charge of driving without a license was dismissed against Felicia L. Allinger, 22.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 7:05 p.m. Friday, 1:16 p.m. Saturday, and 12:08 and 1:51 p.m. Sunday.
At 7:01 p.m. Friday a fire truck was sent to Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital after cleaning fumes set off the alarm. There was no fire.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
