LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Nov. 25
At 8 a.m. a black Lab puppy was reported to have gotten loose and was missing in the 3200 block of HPR.
At 8:26 a.m. a caller reported seeing white smoke coming from a laundry in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek. Officers found it was steam from a broken hot water pipe.
At 9:37 a.m. a caller reported her adult son was upset and left the house yelling. An officer was able to get him to return home.
At 11:46 a.m. a caller asked for a welfare check on her brother-in-law. Officers found he was intoxicated but able to care for himself, and advised him to call his sister-in-law ASAP.
At 12:59 p.m. a caller said someone tried to force open his door in the 3200 block of HPR but left when his brother got up.
At 1:37 p.m. a caller said a woman was harassing a man in the court lobby. Officers gave her a disorderly conduct warning.
At 2:12 p.m. a caller said a man with a screwdriver was trying to get into a house on DeGroff Street. Officers talked to the man, who said he had locked himself out of the house and was trying to get back in.
A vehicle was left in the police parking lot until it’s legal for the owner to drive it.
At 2:41 p.m. a caller said he and his girlfriend were arguing. She tried to take the phone while he was talking. Officers found no crime had been committed.
At 3:55 p.m. a caller said his two daughters had seen a girl smoking a cigarette or marijuana in the woods next to a playground on DeArmond Street. The girl was gone when officers arrived.
At 4:55 p.m. a caller said someone with a flashlight was looking in windows of the old West Marine on Alice Loop. The man told officers he was installing a heat pump, and would put up a work light so people would not think he was an intruder.
At 10 p.m. a caller said her son had attacked her. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
At 11:16 p.m. a caller reported hearing screaming from a house on Merrill Street. A man told police his kids were outside playing and yelling, and he had told them they were being loud.
At 11:39 p.m. a caller said a man was messing around with a vehicle that had an orange sticker on it on Burkhart Street, and had told the caller a friend had given him the vehicle. An officer told the man he had to have proof of ownership; he should conduct business in the daytime hours; and he needed permission from the housing manager before doing work in the parking lot.
Nov. 26
At 2:09 a.m. a caller said someone was rattling his door, in the 600 block of DeArmond Street.
Sitka Police
Gavan Gangle, 20, was charged with criminal trespass in the second degree, theft in the fourth degree, and two counts of violating conditions of release early today.
In Court
Jay Henry Miller, 25, on a charge of unlawful contact pleaded guilty was sentenced to three months. Five other counts of unlawful contact were dismissed. On a charge of violating conditions of probation on a charge of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, additional days were added to the 158 days remaining for community residential treatment for a total of 522 days of discretionary CRC. All jail time was re-suspended.
A charge of violating conditions of release filed against Kaari Joseph, 28, was dismissed without prejudice.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department responded to ambulance calls at 11:12 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2:41 p.m. Tuesday.
At 8:28 a.m. Tuesday, an engine was sent to 1211 Sawmill Creek Road where a water pipe had broken.
