The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Jan. 23
At 12:25 a.m. a caller said his trash had been gone into in the 1200 block of HPR, and a tarp had been put over some items from the garbage.
At 12:48 p.m. a couple was reported arguing, slamming car doors and running into a house with a baby. The couple told police they had car problems the man was trying to fix, and the baby had been taken to a friend’s house .
At 12:57 p.m. police advised a caller about disposing of a dead cat.
An AT&T touch screen phone was found on a picnic table at Pioneer Park.
A Wolff Drive resident complained a brown and white chicken was coming onto his property and getting stuck. Police called the owner of the chicken, who said she would collect it.
An iPhone in a black rubber case was lost at Sitka Community Hospital.
At 5:23 p.m. a teen on a bike was hit in the 900 block of HPR. (See story, Page 1.)
At 7:25 p.m. a caller said she and her ex-boyfriend were arguing. Both were given conduct warnings.
At 8:56 p.m. a dog was reported running loose in the MEHS dorms.
An official asked police to talk to a person cutting across school property.
At 10:29 p.m. a bartender was advised to turn down the music.
Jan. 24
An Andrews Street caller reported loud yelling at 3:20 a.m. Police issued.
At 3:40 a.m. a woman banging on a door, ringing a doorbell and refusing to leave a residence was taken into protective custody.
At 9:57 a.m. a driver said two men followed him from Sealing Cove Harbor to the other side of the bridge, where he got out of his car to confront them, and they took off.
A caller asked for help removing people from her home. Police issued a criminal trespass warning to a woman.
A woman said she was being contacted through facebook, possibly in violation of a domestic violence order.
At 10:19 p.m. a DeArmond Street caller said neighbors were playing loud music. Officers gave the neighbors a warning but the callers then reported the neighbors were banging on the common wall. Officers talked to them and they all agreed to be quiet.
At 10:36 p.m. a man asked for a welfare check on his mother whom he hadn’t heard from in a week. Police talked to the mother, who was fine and with a family caretaker.
Jan. 25
At 12:39 a.m. a caller complained about a loud party on Knutson Drive. Police gave them a warning.
A man said his girlfriend jumped on him and tried to rip his coat, then almost hit his car with her car before trying to drive him off the road in the 4300 block of HPR.
A woman said someone had left a crab pot on her doorstop, possibly by mistake, in the 3300 block of HPR.
At 4 p.m. gunshots were reported in the woods off the 2700 block of HPR, but their source could not be found.
Jan. 26
At 2:22 a.m. a resident advised a driver not to park on private property, in the 1800 block of HPR. She said she was just dropping off someone.
Sitka Police
Michael D. Pizarro, 46, was arrested Saturday on a felony probation violation for allegedly being around drug users.
Charles Kruesel, 52, was arrested Saturday on a felony warrant from Juneau on a charge of assault in the third degree.
Grand Jury
Jeremy C. Beebe, 41, was indicted Friday by a Sitka grand jury on a charge of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree. He was alleged on Jan. 14 to have possessed methamphetamine, court records said. He was also charged with misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree, criminal trespass in the first degree and violating conditions of release. The charging document said that Beebe stole 11 specialized wall retaining blocks, trespassed on the property to take them and violated his release conditions by allegedly committing a crime.
Deanna J. Schuldt, 25, and Sam D. Petro, 33, were indicted Friday by a Sitka grand jury on a charge of promoting contraband in the first degree. Court records said that on Jan. 15 they tried to bring buprenorphine (suboxone) into the jail.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 5:20 and 9:22 p.m. Friday.
At 9:30 a.m. Friday a fire truck was sent to the Sitka Police Department on Lake Street after a belt compressor burned, and set off the smoke alarm. There was no fire, the fire hall said.
At 4:10 p.m. Friday the harbor vessel was sent to an area near O’Connell Bridge where a boat, with one person aboard, had become disabled and was being pushed up against a rocky shore. A friend of the vessel owner arrived to help.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
