March 31, 2015 Police Blotter

The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:

March 30

At 8 a.m. a caller said she’d heard there was a protest over testing at Blatchley Middle School and she didn’t want her child’s learning to be disrupted. An officer found a few people with signs but all was peaceful. He was to check the scene periodically.

A caller said his delivery truck had been hit over the weekend.

At 11:38 a.m. a Hollywood Way resident reported being awakened by a man and woman arguing, and the woman was crying. The caller said it had happened before, and seemed to be coming from a backyard.

At 12:48 p.m. a man said he had been cut off in the roundabout. A woman called to say the man had followed her to get her license plate and accused her of running a stop sign. Police told her of the man’s complaint.

At 3:33 p.m. a caller said a log was on the outbound lane on SMC at the roundabout. It was moved before officers arrived.

A caller said his bike was missing from his grandparents’ home on Rudolph Walton Circle.

At 3:49 p.m. an officer told a woman roller skating uphill in the inbound side of Lake Street that it was unsafe.

A woman told police her sister-in-law and one of her friends had called her in spite of a court order. Officers were to forward charges of violating conditions of release.

At 7:48 p.m. an ambulance was called for a girl with a broken arm.

At 10:56 p.m. callers reported a man had crashed his bike at Indian River Road and SMC. He told police he had fallen off his bike, and was not hit by a car. He was taken to the hospital.

March  31

At 3:28 a.m. a caller said fighting was going on in the home, and juveniles were present. Officers gave two men disorderly conduct warnings.

Seven vehicles parked at 200 Seward were cited around 4 a.m.

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 7:23 p.m., 7:49 p.m., 8:40 p.m. and 10:59 p.m. Monday, and 4:02 a.m. today. At 7:40 a.m. Monday, an emergency boat was launched to respond to a report of a suicide at Baranof Warm Springs.

Sitka Police

Navarre Ventra, 25, was arrested 12:09 a.m. Monday on felony drug charges, the outcome of a narcotics investigation initiated by Sitka Police.

Police said a search warrant  turned up about 33 grams of crystal methamphetamine, apparently packaged for individual sale, along with cash and items used for the sale of drugs.

Ventra was charged with two felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third degree and two misdemeanors for violating conditions of release.

Gavin Kamback, 28, was arrested 9:20 p.m. Sunday on two felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance (crystal methamphetamine) in the third degree and misconduct involving weapons in the fourth degree.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
