LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. The following calls were received by Sitka police as of 8 a.m. today:
April 10
A caller complained neighbors store broken down vehicles in their driveway, and in a ditch across the street.
A brown cane was reported lost.
A woman said someone used her and her husband’s Social Security numbers to file a false tax report.
At 1:13 p.m. a caller said a bus cut off a line of cars and nearly caused an accident at Indian River and SMC.
A school asked an officer to stand by for an issue involving a parent.
Police asked a man camping off the Gavan Trail to remove his belongings and pick up trash.
A mailman said an elderly woman hadn’t picked up her mail in a few days. Officers found she was out of town for medical reasons.
A domestic violence order and the denial of a stalking order were served.
At 8:31 p.m. a resident complained someone was knocking on her door in the Indian River area, but no one was around when police checked.
At 11:25 p.m. a bottle of alcohol was reported stolen from a liquor store. A witness and store clerk gave police the first name of the suspect and will provide video footage of the theft.
At 11:59 p.m. a man was reported passed out on a Kaagwaantaan Street bench. When officers arrived he was walking around.
April 11
At 2:04 a.m. a maroon leather wallet found on Lincoln Street was turned in.
A woman having some mental health issues was taken into protective custody around 4:55 a.m.
A man left his credit card in an ATM machine and now it was missing.
At 5:52 p.m. TSA reported confiscating a stun gun from baggage. Police will hold it until the woman returns to claim it.
At 6 p.m. a caller said his son had been bitten by a dog on Kaagwaantaan Street. The owner was given a warning for allowing the dog to run at large. Police found the child was uninjured.
Police picked up luggage left in the airport parking lot.
At 10 p.m. a caller said his wallet was stolen from a locker at Blatchley pool.
April 12
At 12:25 a.m. a white van was reported “doing donuts” in a parking lot in the 4600 block of HPR.
At 3:16 a.m. a man reported yelling at his mother’s house and scaring her was taken into protective custody.
At 4:29 a.m. a man complained that his girlfriend was destroying his property but he didn’t want to give officers the location, and said he didn’t want to get his girlfriend into trouble. The man, who met police at a grocery store, left the area with his friend, who said the man could stay with him for the night.
At 3:28 p.m. police advised a man walking in the middle of HPR to use the sidewalk. He was given a disorderly conduct warning. Officers noted he was carrying two box cutters.
A caller asked police to check on a woman who appeared to be upset. She said she was fine, and in touch with people who could help her.
A woman said her boyfriend was throwing her things out of the house. Police talked to the two, who agreed to figure out a way for the woman to get her property later. Both were given disorderly conduct warnings.
A brown wallet was reported lost.
April 13
Ar 3:34 a.m. resident reported seeing someone walking around her building on Indian River road and it frightened her. No one was around when police checked a few minutes later.
