LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
April 20
A resident said about $1,150 in Stinger-brand rotating flashers had been stolen from his vehicle.
A housesitter said a caller offered her something related to computers, and she suspected it was a scam.
At 3:26 p.m. a driver said another driver in a black pickup stopped in the roadway, flipped him off and threatened him. He told police he didn’t get the pickup’s license number.
A wallet was turned in to police.
A resident said someone used his social security number to apply for a tax return.
At 8:14 p.m. police investigated a report of a high school student in possession of pot on school grounds. Charges of felony drug possession will be forwarded to the assistant district attorney’s office.
At 10:51 p.m. a resident asked for help on an issue involving a neighbor and a dog. He was told it was a civil issue.
In Court
Buck R. Mills, 36, was sentenced to five years, with two suspended, and fined $6,000, with $3,000 suspended, for misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree. He was also sentenced to 30 days for driving without a valid license, and 10 days for violating conditions of release. He will be on probation for four years, with a number of standard felony probation conditions. A charge of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the sixth degree was dismissed.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched an ambulance at 11:32 p.m. Monday.
