The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
May 22
At 12:25 p.m. a hit and run accident was reported in the 700 block of HPR.
At 2:42 p.m. a caller reported that high school kids were beating up a middle schooler at the skate park.
A woman reported a Western Union fraud case.
Police tried to contact a man in Sitka about his boat in the Seward rail yard, but he couldn’t be reached, police said.
A grocery cart was found in the Keet Gooshi Heen ballfields.
At 9:52 p.m. a man said his brother was scaring him and a woman at ANB Harbor. Police found no sign of a crime. The trio separated for the night.
May 23
A rock was reported thrown through the windshield of a crane in the 2000 block of HPR.
A charity said a man was camping out in its parking lot, making an employee uncomfortable. A criminal trespass form was signed.
A grocery store customer turned in a syringe and foil found in the store’s restroom. Police disposed of the items.
A bear was reported at 12:57 p.m. on Valhalla Drive.
Police advised a woman about eviction procedures.
A traffic accident was reported at Moller and HPR. Gabriela Alarcon, 35, was cited for failing to have a license.
An officer told juveniles to get off Blatchley’s roof, and they complied.
At 7:35 p.m. a 911 caller reported arguing with a neighbor over their children’s toys, and now the neighbor was yelling obscenities at her. The toys were returned to their rightful owner. The parties separated for the night.
At 8:38 p.m. a cat was reported run over in the 100 block of Granite Creek Road.
At 9:21 p.m. a man said someone was stalking him near his residence in Sealing Cove Harbor. Police saw no one in the area.
At 10:56 p.m. a caller said a neighbor was slamming doors, keeping her awake. The neighbor told officers he was just going to bed. He received a disorderly conduct warning.
May 24
At 1:10 a.m. a large man knocking over garbage cans near St. Michael’s said he was just angry. He was given a criminal trespass notice and a disorderly conduct warning.
At 9:23 a.m. a bear was reported knocking over garbage cans in the 4700 block of HPR.
A bear was reported in the estuary at 11:20 a.m. Fish and Game reportedly fired a less lethal round at the bear.
At 3:31 p.m. a caller said a man who was high on heroin was driving. Police found the man had not been driving.
A caller said the steel plates across HPR might be damaging the road whenever vehicles went over them. Police removed the debris that had come out from under the plates.
Ketchikan troopers told police a woman had threatened to kill herself. Officers checked the site given of the suicide attempt and found no one around. The woman turned out to be fine and safely at home, a friend said.
A Volcom light blue leather wallet was turned in to the police department.
May 25
At 1:55 a.m. 911 caller reported loud banging and yelling at a house. People there told officers someone at the party began choking others, prompting the others to run him off the property. No one wanted to file charges, and all were given disorderly conduct warnings.
At 1:54 a.m., in a related call, a man was reported chasing people with a bat and yelling.
At 6:08 a.m. an ambulance was called for a man who had taken a possible overdose of his medication.
A caller said a man violated a domestic violence order.
A resident asked to talk to an officer about a man trespassing on his boat.
At 11:55 a.m. a caller said a man fell on the sidewalk in the 2000 block of HPR. He refused medical treatment.
Two people were reported pushing each other at the Russian cemetery.
Officers gave a disorderly conduct notice to a man and woman being loud and arguing on Marine and Erler Street.
At 8:24 p.m. a caller reported a bear was on a porch at Toivo Street, but was not causing a disturbance.
At 9:23 p.m. a caller reported seeing an object that looked like some sort of missile flying overhead.
At 10 p.m. a driver was reported swerving and going below the speed limit in the 900 block of HPR. The person behind the wheel, who was accompanied by her mother in the passenger seat, said she’s a new driver with a permit who was going slowly because she’s still getting the hang of driving.
At 10:22 p.m. people were reported having a bonfire near the golf course. The host said they would leave soon.
At 10:46 p.m. a man asked for police help in a domestic argument that might escalate. The woman received a disorderly conduct warning. The two agreed to stay apart for the night.
May 26
Police called an ambulance for an intoxicated man in the 400 block of Lake Street at 1:14 a.m.
Sitka Police
Jessica L. Manzanares, 41, was arrested Saturday for misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third degree (possession of methamphetamine), criminal trespass, and violating conditions of release (three counts).
Dylan W. Smith, 23, was arrested Sunday for driving under the influence.
Russell M. James, 36, was arrested early Monday for driving under the influence.
Abelardo F. Espeleta, 58, was charged early Monday with misconduct involving a controlled substance in the third degree (two counts), possession of methamphetamine.
In Court
Michelle L. Arnold, 60, was sentenced to 45 days, with 42 suspended, and fined $2,000, with $500 suspended, for driving under the influence. She is to complete alcohol counseling, her license will be revoked for 90 days and she will be on probation for a year.
Carlos W. Murillo, 22, was sentenced to 10 days, suspended, and fined $1,000 for reckless driving. He was originally charged with driving under the influence but pleaded guilty to reckless driving. His license will be revoked for 30 days, and he will be on probation for a year.
Robert J. Littlefield, 71, was sentenced to 21 years, with 10 suspended, for sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree. Court records said he had sexual contact with a person under 16, and pleaded guilty to the charge. Three counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the second were dismissed against him. He is to receive sex offender treatment while incarcerated. When he is released, he is to register as a sex offender and is to be on probation for 10 years. He was also sentenced to a year for violating conditions of release.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 12:58, 6:20 and 6:50 p.m. Friday, 9:48 and 11:17 p.m. Sunday; 6:33 a.m., 7:16 a.m., 12:02 p.m. 7:45 p.m. and 8:32 p.m. Monday and 7:12 a.m. today.
At 4:59 p.m. Sunday a fire truck was sent to 4513 HPR after a malfunction in the sprinkler system triggered the alarm.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter hoisted a 60-year-old man off the F/V Western Profit in Deep Bay at 8:50 p.m. Sunday evening on a report of a gastrointestinal bleed.
Two hours later the helicopter medevacked an 83-year-old man with heart attack symptoms from Haines to Juneau.
