Hoonah Celebrates New Health Center
The SouthEast Regional Health Consortium Hoonah Health Center has moved into a new medical facility. To celebrate the move, SEARHC will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony 11 a.m. July 30, with light snacks, refreshments and giveaways.
The nearly 10,000-square-foot space includes four more exam rooms, totaling seven, as well as an expanded dental clinic and modern emergency trauma room. The new space also has lodging quarters for visiting providers.
“Providing high-quality health care services in a challenging geographic region such as Southeast Alaska is a complex endeavor, and our partnerships are cornerstones to being successful. We are extremely pleased to have partnered with the City of Hoonah and several generous grantors to construct this state-of-the-art facility,” said SEARHC President and CEO Charles Clement.
The new Hoonah Health Center replaces the old 4,000 square-foot trailers and is designed to be environmentally friendly. The building uses all LED lighting and soy foam insulation, making it extremely energy efficient while reducing operating costs.
Several of SEARHC’s most valued partners provided substantial grants to fund the new center. Grantors included the Denali Commission, State of Alaska, Rasmuson Foundation, Hoonah Indian Association, Indian Health Service and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium.
SEARHC Board Chair, Kimberly Strong added, “Building a new facility in this community has been on our radar for quite some time. It’s especially gratifying to increase access to first-rate medical services for the people of Hoonah.”
