The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
July 22
A Samsung S4 found in the 1500 block of SMC was turned in to police.
A man reported losing his wallet at a local grocery store a few weeks ago.
At 2 p.m. an intoxicated man was seen stumbling into Indian River Road. A friend agreed to take care of him.
Police took photos of a vehicle possibly damaged in a hit and run.
A woman said a caller reported being injured in the mouth but didn’t want to speak with police. Officers talked to the caller, who was not injured, and found no evidence of a crime.
A store clerk asked police to check out videotape of a shoplifting incident. The manager signed a criminal trespass form, to be served on the suspect.
A resident asked for help in dealing with his mother, who was throwing things at him and refusing to leave his property. Police talked to all involved, and advised them of their options.
At 10:38 p.m. a resident said someone was knocking on his front door in the 4300 block of HPR. No one was around when officers arrived, and the resident was advised to call back if the person returned.
At 11:17 p.m. a driver reported hitting two otters, and they were now in the road, not moving. The driver called back to say the animals had gotten up and run into the bushes, by the skate park. Officers were unable to locate any injured otters.
July 23
At 1:50 a.m. a 911 caller reported two intoxicated men in the 200 block of Seward Street. One of the men was taken to the hospital after he injured himself when he fell.
At 2:18 a.m. a caller reported an intoxicated man with a brown paper bag was stumbling in the 500 block of Lake Street. He was gone when police checked.
At 3:17 a.m. an intoxicated man flagged down officers outside a bar, to ask for a taxi. The police dispatcher called a cab to take him home.
Sitka Police
Andrew C. Chapin, 32, of Ketchikan, was arrested Thursday on a felony probation violation, and misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fifth degree, from Ketchikan.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 12:35 p.m. Thursday; and 2:04 a.m. and 6:13 a.m. today.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
