July 27, 2015 Police Blotter

The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:

July 24

A bus was broken into at SJ.

At 2:33 p.m. police performed a welfare check on two children.

At 6:07 p.m. kids flagged down police to report older kids smoking cigarettes at the skatepark. Police cited a 15-year-old boy for smoking.

A chocolate Lab was missing for about a week, from Lakeview Drive.

July 25

At 1 p.m. a woman asked police to check outside her residence because she was too afraid to do so. No one was around when police checked.

A caller reported a dog that appeared too sick to move. The owner claimed it.

A keys on a black lanyard were lost.

A caller said her truck was gone through, possibly by a neighbor, and glovebox items strewn. She was to call if anything was damaged or missing.

At 12:15 p.m. the harbor department said an intoxicated man was harassing people in Eliason Harbor. Officers gave him a warning. Soon after, police were told he was harassing people again.

At 12:26 p.m. a caller said his wife broke her ankle at Mosquito Cove. A search and rescue team picked her up in a boat and took her to Starrigavan, where an ambulance picked her up.

At 1:28 p.m. a driver was reported  swerving into the bike lane, and almost into bushes on HPR. Police watched the vehicle and saw no bad driving.

At 1:39 p.m. a caller said a man had set up a tent and appeared to be camping on a green strip at Crescent Harbor. When the harbor department arrived, the tent was packed up in his truck.

At 1:58 p.m. a caller reported hearing what sounded like an old tsunami warning signal in the 3200 block of HPR. Police checked with the fire hall, which said no signal was activated.

Keys on a plain key ring were lost.

At 5:21 p.m. police received a 911 call with silence on the end. Officers found it was a verbal argument between a son and his mother. Police noted a juvenile was present.

Police talked to a driver who was swerving, and had an obstructed windshield. The driver was cited for failing to have proof of insurance.

July 26

At 1:33 a.m. a caller said her juvenile daughter hadn’t been home since noon and she didn’t know where she was.

At 3:06 a.m. a 911 caller reported a large group being noisy on Jeff Davis Street. Police could hear people talking but saw no one on the roadway.

At 8:25 a.m. a caller said he wanted to press charges against a man who assaulted him in the 4400 block of SMC. 

A a man curled up on the footbridge in Sitka National Historical Park was taken into protective custody.

A caller said a girl was locked out of her house, and was hungry. Officers   found the girl was well cared for, and had not been locked out of her home.

At 1:19 p.m. a caller asked police to talk to a male crew member who was accused of behaving inappropriately toward a female crew member. The woman didn’t want to press charges, but wanted him to stay away from her. He was given a trespass warning.

Officers called the owner of a boat  left running in Sealing Cove Harbor.

At 3:14 p.m. an intoxicated woman fell on Katlian Street. Police found she was to care for herself. Charges on a probation violation, for consuming alcohol, will be forwarded to the D.A.

A caller reported losing a blue and gray backpack containing a Nikon camera and expensive headphones.

At 6 p.m. a Bartlett Regional Hospital employee reported receiving a message from a Sitka woman who said she had cut herself. Police traced the call, and found the woman was unharmed. She agreed to go in to the hospital.

At 7:33 p.m. a man being loud in Crescent Harbor was told to stay out of bars and liquor stores for the night.

At 9 p.m. a 911 caller said a bear  was at Ross and Barker Streets, heading toward HPR. It was later seen with a bag of garbage in its mouth.

At 10:54 p.m. a resident asked to talk to someone because she was unable to sleep or reach her clinician. She agreed to go to the hospital for help.

 

Sitka Police

Deanne Kubik, 49, was cited on Saturday for driving in violation of an instruction permit.

Alicia Svilar, 23, was cited Saturday for driving with a suspended license.

Larry D. Robinson, 28, was charged Sunday morning with assault in the fourth degree.

Katherine Howard, 29, was cited Sunday for failing to have a license or insurance.

 

Emergency Calls

The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 11:18 a.m., 2:33 p.m., 3:26 p.m., 7:43 p.m. and 9:54 p.m. Friday; and 11:30 a.m., 12:25 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. Saturday; and 5:48, 9:50, 10:23 and 11:05 p.m. Sunday.

At 5:55 p.m. Saturday a fire truck was sent to 485 Katlian St. after burned food set off the alarm. There was no fire.

 

In Court

Kerry E. MacLane, 57, was sentenced to 110 days, with 85 suspended, and fined $3,000, on each of two counts of driving under the influence, in relation to charges on April 14 and 18, 2015. He is to receive treatment, his license will be suspended for a year, and he will be on probation for four years. Three charges of violating conditions of release were dismissed. The sentences are to be served consecutively.

Christopher A. Everhart, 23, was sentenced to 15 days for violating conditions of release. Charges of assault in the fourth degree, and violating conditions of release were dismissed.

 

Grand Jury

Alex B. Petro, 27, Chelsey N. Lyons, 21, and Cory A. Mickelson, 35, were indicted Friday by a Sitka grand jury on a charge of tampering with physical evidence, a class C felony. They were alleged on July 17 to have removed a sizable amount of heroin from a truck that had been seized in an investigation, and tried to destroy the heroin by flushing it down the toilet, police said. Lyons was released on bail. Petro is being held on $10,000 bail, and Mickelson was being held on $9,000 bail.
