LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. Police Blotter
The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
July 28
DOT requested that five vehicles parked at the airport be impounded for violating FAA rules and regulations.
At 11:55 a.m. a caller in the 3500 block of HPR reported two vehicles appeared to be racing at high speed toward town.
At 1:20 p.m. a caller said an RV was parked in front of city hall, reducing the street to one lane. Officers cited the driver for obstructing traffic.
At 1:27 p.m. a man was reported throwing things about in a bunkhouse. He was deemed unable to care for himself and was taken into protective custody.
At 3:12 p.m. traffic control was provided at Lake and Lincoln streets where a power outage affected a street light.
At 8:15 p.m. a 911 caller asked for an ambulance for a person with a dislocated hip.
At 8:24 p.m. a caller said a 10-year-old foster son had run away and was refusing to return. An officer spoke with the boy, and he agreed to return to his foster home.
Three vehicles were cited for overnight parking at the airport.
July 29
At 3:55 a.m. a 911 caller reported a bear was knocking over trash cans in the 4500 block of HPR, and he believed people on foot were in the area. The bear was gone when officers arrived.
At 5:09 a.m. a 911 caller said a bear was inside the gated area of Fortress of the Bear and seemed out of place. An officer found no bears in the common area but saw one bear passing between two enclosures through a caged area that connects the two. The property manager will be advised.
6:35 a.m. a woman brought in an iPhone she’d found in the middle of the road in the 1500 block of Edgecumbe Drive.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department sent a boat to Kalinin Bay Tuesday where a man on a fishing vessel was having medical problems. The man was brought back to town for treatment.
After a city power outage, firefighters responded to several fire alarms.
Ambulances were dispatched at 7:09 p.m. and 8:18 p.m. Tuesday and 1:24 a.m. today.
