Holland America Ships To Use Old Sitka Dock
By Sentinel Staff
Holland America, the main cruise line that comes to Sitka, will use the Old Sitka Dock, instead of lightering passengers to town this summer, the Assembly was told Monday night.

Fred Reeder, port director of Cruise Line Agencies, notified city officials earlier on Monday that he had just received the final word on the change from the cruise line.
“Merchants should plan that all ships using Old Sitka Dock will have the passengers dropped off and picked up at Harrigan Hall,” he said in an email to businesses.
“The move will involve substantially more economic activity for Sitka this summer,” Reeder said. “I know some of the restaurants told me last year they did much better when the ships were out at the dock versus tendering. Let’s all hope for a busy cruise ship season.”
The new plan will require a few schedule changes, and the master plan will be posted on the Cruise Line Agencies website at www.claalaska.com, Reeder said.
The previous schedule called for the Holland America ships – Maasdam, Westerdam and Amsterdam – to anchor in Crescent Bay and tender into the O’Connell Bridge lightering facility.
Cruise Line Agencies said some 114,000 visitors are expected to come to Sitka on cruise ships this summer, which is about the same number as last year.
