LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
April 26
At 8 a.m. a caller reported seeing a large bear in the 4400 block of HPR.
A small black Yezz-brand cell phone was turned in but it was so waterlogged it had no value and was thrown out.
At 10:24 a.m. a clinic reported an incident Saturday involving a very angry man. A charge of assault in the fourth degree (fear) was to be forwarded to the DA.
At 12:05 p.m. the animal control officer checked in on a dog and found it was healthy and gaining weight.
At 1:25 p.m. a caller said a highly intoxicated female was growling and making noise at the skate park. An officer responded and spoke to a man there, who didn’t respond to the officer’s command. EMS personnel arrived and tried to help the man but he fought with them. He was taken into protective custody and transported to the hospital.
At 2:15 p.m. a caller reported a minor traffic accident in a parking lot on Metlakatla Street. Both drivers were given self-reporting forms.
At 3:56 p.m. a vehicle broke down in the roadway in the 800 block of HPR. Officers directed traffic while the vehicle was moved.
At 6:30 p.m. a 911 caller said she was vomiting and had a headache, but when EMS arrived she refused to leave. A fire department captain arrived, but she again refused to leave.
At 8:28 p.m. a caller in the 100 block of Erler Street said someone had shot off fireworks that landed on her roof. She said she had not been able to find the source of the fireworks. Officers were to be notified of the incident.
Sitka Police
Stephen Brian Henman, 28, was cited for having an open container and littering. He also was given a criminal trespass order involving the skate park.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 1:34 p.m. and 6:31 p.m. Tuesday, and 9:17 a.m. today.
