Janice Glee “Jan” (Wright) Winters, a former Sitka resident, died July 26, 2022, in La Pine, Oregon. She was 76.

She was born May 28, 1946, in Puyallup, Washington, the youngest of five children of Virgil Julius and Cherie Louise (Carter) Wright.

The family moved to Alaska when Jan was 5. She graduated from Sitka High School, the class of 1965. She married James Morris Winters on July 11, 1969, and they celebrated 53 anniversaries.

While most of those years she was a homemaker, she had worked as a practical nurse, dental assistant, playground attendant, caregiver, and volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Jan loved music, crossword puzzles, and a hot cup of tea. Her hobbies included sewing, reading and watching hummingbirds at her feeders.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and sister.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jimmy Wright and  sisters Joy Gosnell and Jean Williams. 

She is survived by brother Jerry Wright; husband Jim Winters; son Chris Winters; daughter Cynthia Meyer, grandsons Chase Winters, Cody Winters and Dillon Meyer; and granddaughters Ariel Yenne and Brittney Meyer.

She has been cremated as per her wishes, and no service is planned at this time.
