Mary L. McConkey

Mary L. McConkey, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on October 8, 2022, while in Anchorage for medical care. She was 67.

Mary was born April 16, 1955, in Juneau, the daughter of Lillian and Alfred G. Grant Sr.

She graduated from high school in Juneau, but spent much of her life in Sitka, and had been a resident here for many years at the time of her death. 

She was a nurse, and had worked at SEARHC until her retirement.

Mary was a member of the Salvation Army, and the Alaska Native Sisterhood. She enjoyed making Tlingit regalia, and was known for her skill.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Grant Sr.; her mother, Lillian Grant; sisters Darlene Grant and Ruth Baz; brothers Alfred Grant Jr. and Larry Grant; and nephew Joel Grant.

She is survived by her husband, David McConkey, of Sitka; daughters Michelle McConkey of Baltimore, Maryland, Erika McConkey of Sitka, and Marjorie Baguya of Juneau; and her siblings Hilda MacDonald (Alan) of Fairbanks, and Michael Grant and Ernest Grant, both of Juneau.

Nieces and nephews Joshua MacDonald, Ariel (Tony) Ross, Jeannette White, James White, Larina (Derek) Baringer and Chris Baz; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later time.
