Mario Fernandez Rivera

Mario Fernandez Rivera was born July 22, 1967, in Barancuag Tuao Cagayan, Philippines, and died at the age of 55 on February 19, 2023, in Sitka.

He graduated from Sitka High School, class of 1986, and spent his life fishing, hunting, and working multiple jobs in Sitka.

He was one of the kindest people and took pride and joy in helping others or making them laugh. With his sense of humor and caring nature he could bring a smile to anyone’s face.

He is survived by his siblings Myrna Cirera of Clackamas, Oregon, Jose Rivera of Sitka, and Jessie Rivera of Ohio; his children Jarred Rivera and  Brandon Rivera and Marianna Rivera, of Sitka and Ivan Rivera of the Philippines; and his grandchildren Jeter Rivera and Baylor Rivera, both of Sitka.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Sitka National Cemetery, with a potluck memorial to follow from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Marina Pizza and Grill.

All are welcome to celebrate Mario’s life and share memories with his family.
