Candace Theodora Bartels

Candace Theodora Bartels, a lifelong Sitka resident, passed away in Sitka on the morning of March 31. She was 67.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Candy was born in Sitka on Dec. 31, 1955. She was a member of the Sitka High School class of 1974, and over the years she worked at Alaska Lumber & Pulp, and then at the Double O Senior Center as a van driver – she loved driving the elderly, and they all loved her.

She loved spending time with her family and taking daily rides with her son while drinking her favorite coffee, stopping at stores to shop.

She also loved to cook and bake,  and enjoyed crocheting and knitting, shopping at stores online and in town, and playing solitaire on her tablet for hours and hours.

Candy was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Flora Anderson.

She is survived by her son, John Bartels Jr. of Sitka; and cousins Sandra Lawton, Anna Lawton, Donald Anderson, William Anderson, and Charlotte Bernhardt, all of Sitka, Jennie Lawton of Oregon, and Jean Hamar of Juneau.

Nieces and nephews include Cindy Ricaporte, Trevin Ricaporte, Mary Bernhardt, Charles Emanoff, Maren Tucker, Richard Biggs Jr., Kristin Ricketts, Steven Bartels, Kenneth Bartels and Jeannie Emanoff.
