Andrew B. Miller
Andrew B. Miller, a former Sitka resident, died February 20, 2025, in Edmonds, Washington, at age 65.
Andy was born December 3, 1959, in Spokane, Washington, to Betty Collins and James Miller. He grew up in Alaska, graduating from Sitka High School in 1977. Some of his favorite times in Sitka were when he was playing the trombone in band, kayaking in the ocean, acting in musicals – specifically “Charlie Brown” – and amateur photography composition. He preferred to take black and white photos at Starragavan.
Together with members of the Sheldon Jackson College band, Andy went on a mission trip to Tijuana, Mexico, to help in various projects.
Andy met the love of his life Judith in the 1980s at Sitka Christian Center, then pastored by Bob Benton, and they married there on June 9, 1985. They moved to Seattle, where he attended the University of Washington, then worked as an electrician for over 30 years, first at Broadview Electric in Seattle and for more than 15 years at Sequoyah Electric in Redmond.
All knew him to be the kindest and most generous of men. Andy helped rebuild homes, volunteered at food banks, and managed sound equipment for his church. He loved to fish, cook, debate politics, play video games and chess. Like any Sitkan, Andy had strong opinions on boats, but of all boats he especially admired small catamarans for their simple, elegant efficiency.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judith Miller and his daughter, Abigail Miller, both of Edmonds; his sister, Naomi, of Sitka; his brother, Phil; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. March 15 at Upper Room Northwest, 3702 214th Street Southwest, Mountlake Terrace, WA, 98043.
