Mary Ellen McHugh, 52, passed away peacefully Aug. 1, 2013, at Sitka Community Hospital.
A celebration of her life will be held 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at the north shelter of Halibut Point Recreation Area. All are welcome to attend, and to take food or spirits if you would like.
Mary Ellen was born to Malcom and Eleanor (Seward) McHugh in Stoneham, Mass., and was a 1978 graduate of Stoneham High School. She resided in the Boston area until she relocated to Sitka with her sons in 2012.
Mary Ellen loved her family, photography, and being outdoors. Her favorite activities included researching her Irish family genealogy, playing pool, sitting around a campfire with her friends and family, watching movies, and listening to music.
Mary’s dream of moving to Alaska came true and she enjoyed her time in Sitka eagle watching and taking in the beautiful scenery.
Mary Ellen is survived by her mother Eleanor, her sister Tracy McHugh, and her brother Raymond McHugh. Her children are Christian Watson and his wife Elizabeth of Sitka, Gerard “Jerry” Watson of Sitka, and Barbara Watson, Leah Watson, and Joel Watson of Belfast, Maine.
She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Caleb Brouillet of Sitka, Hannah Watson of Belfast, Maine, and Makayla Langelier of Sandy, Utah.
She also has numerous cousins, all residing in the New England area.
