Marilyn Jeanne Golden passed from our lives on Nov. 5, 2013, with her children by her side. She was 86.
Jeanne was born to Robert and Genevieve Whipple in Denver, Colo., on Jan. 11, 1927. She was one of six children.
When she was a child the family lived in Colorado, New Mexico and California.
She met Leo Golden in Los Angeles, Calif., and followed him to Alaska via the Alcan Highway, where he was employed in Anchorage by the Civil Aeronautics Administration (which would later become the F.A.A).
They married in Anchorage in 1949 and honeymooned at Denali. She and Leo and family lived in Anchorage, Unalakleet, and Petersburg. They lived on Woody Island (outside of Kodiak) for 10 years where they experienced the 1964 earthquake and tsunami.
They moved to Sitka in 1969, where they remained.
After moving to Sitka, Jeanne worked at several retail stores including Shennett’s Dress Shop, Neill Andersen’s, and Random House.  She then worked at Harry Race Pharmacy for nine years, followed by working at the newly constructed Shee Atika Lodge for eight years. She retired in the mid 1980s.
Among her pleasures were visiting with family and friends, and being with her children, grandchildren and her great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Genevieve; two brothers, Robert and John; and two sisters, Barbara and Betty Jo.

Jeanne is survived by her husband Leo, son Ray, daughter Debi and husband Gary Smith, all of Sitka; grandson Travis and wife April Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah;  granddaughter Tara (Walt Smith); and great-grandson Bryce, all of Sitka; and a brother David and wife Susan Whipple of Riverside, Calif.
At her request there will be no service. Interment will be at a later date in Grand Junction, Colo., near her grandparents, brother John and sister Barbara.
“We miss you!” her family said.
