Joanna Giglia
To be Oct. 16
Joanna Giglia, 68, resident of Sitka since 1996, was granted her angel wings on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, with her children by her side.
Joanna was born January 22, 1947, in New York City to Vittorio and Gioconda Giglia. She practiced nursing in Florida, Alabama and Alaska for 30 years. In Sitka, Joanna worked in the outpatient department at SEARHC, and loved her connection to the community through nursing.
Joanna loved her family, her pets, nature, gardening, painting, speaking the Italian language, and living in Alaska.
She was the founder of the Sitka Chapter of The Wild Roses for the Red Hat Society, and known as Queen Rozie.
She was adopted into the Frog Clan and was a member of the Alaska Native Sisterhood – both cherished honors for her.
Joanna was a believer in Christ and her faith was undaunted. She enjoyed reading the Bible and quoting Scriptures. She was a faithful servant to God and the community of Sitka.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa Boswell; son Peter Menendez and his wife Dawn Mahoney-Menendez; Godmother Lena Lanciotti; Aunt Mary Parrino and cousins Rosemary and Michael; Aunt Lena Colletti and cousins Johnny, Ernest, Joseph and Glenn; cousins Frank Colletti and children Julia Ann and Frank; cousin Pete Giglio; Kim Crampshee, husband Stuart and children Schylar and Stuart; Dug and Sue Jensen and members of the Calvary Chapel.
