Theodore (Ted) William Thomassen, a longtime Southeast fisherman, passed away unexpectedly in Sitka on October 16, 2015, at the age of 75.

Ted was born August 9, 1940, in Petersburg to Haakon and Eleanor Thomassen. He was an avid commercial fisherman from a very early age, first fishing with his father on the F/V Baltic.

After moving to Sitka, he owned and operated his own commercial fishing vessels for more than 40 years.  He was an avid mechanic, as well.

Ted was very witty, with an infectious laugh and a good sense of humor.

He was passionate about hunting and fishing, and was one who loved his boats. The Ginger was his favorite. It was a 42-footer, and he fished in it from Petersburg to Baranof Island, and all the surrounding waters. His favorite place was Cameron Pass.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Haakon and Eleanor Thomassen.

He is survived by his companion of 29 years Joyce Chandler; brothers Palmer, Steven and Fred Thomassen; and many nieces and nephews.

Ted was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.
