Home Run Highlights Sitka Majors Win over Knik

Sitka opened the Little League Alaska State Majors (10-12 year old) Baseball All-Stars Tournament with a 7-3 win over Eagle River’s Knik LL on Friday night at Moller Field in game one of a best 3-out-of-5 series.

Sitka’s Chance Coleman put a 3 RBI shot over the left field fence with Bryce Calhoun and Josh McAlpin on base in the bottom of a 6-run second inning to lead the way for Sitka.

Knik put the first 2 runs across the plate in the top of the first inning with Aiden Ayojiak and Dallin Roberts crossing and added a run in the top of the sixth. Sitka scored their first run in the bottom half of the opening inning. 

Sitka totaled 7 hits and 1 fielding error in the game, Knik had 3 hits and 2 errors.

B. Calhoun went 2-4 with 2 runs scored for Sitka.

Coleman also earned the win on the mound with 2 strikeouts in two innings of work.

Bryce Calhoun relieved for one inning and registered 2 strikeouts and Trey Johnson closed the game with 1 K.

Ryan Mullen started the game for Knik.

Sitka snuffed out a potential Knik rally in the fourth inning on a double play ball fielded by B. Calhoun on the mound who spun and to shortstop Coleman covering second and who in turn threw it on to Caleb Calhoun at first base.

Sitka and Knik play game two on Saturday at 4 p.m., game three is Sunday at 4 p.m., and if-necessary games are Monday and Tuesday at 6 p.m.
