Pioneers Meet
Pioneers of Alaska will meet Nov. 7 at the Methodist Church.
Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and a brief business meeting.
A split-the-pot raffle with door prizes will be part of the program, as well as historical presentations by various Pioneers.

Members of the Sitka Fine Arts Camp Young Performers Theatre musical cast of “The Adventures of Beatrix Potter and Her Friends” will be at Kettleson Memorial Library 5 p.m. Nov. 10 to share a sampling of the stories and musical numbers from their production.
The full musical will be presented Nov. 16 and 17 at Odess Theater at Allen Hall on the Sheldon Jackson campus.
SCVB Board Meets

Auditors Meet
Members of the Sitka School Board will meet with the school district auditor, BDO, 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Alaska State School Board Annual Conference in Anchorage at the Hilton Hotel Nov. 7-10.

From Sitka’s Past by Robert DeArmond: May 14, 1878 – The steamer California brought a cannery crew to Sitka for one of the first two salmon canneries in Alaska. The cannery, located at Starrigavan, operated for only two seasons and was abandoned.
50 YEARS AGO
May 1972
The work of four Sitka artists will be represented in the Ketchikan Arts and Crafts Guild Traveling Show. The artists are Alice Bergdoll, Linda Larsen, Marilyn Nevers and Clint Miller.
